TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Trigger point therapy, also
known as myofascial trigger points, are areas of
hyper-irritability in
the soft tissue structure. These can be an acute source of pain.
These points can sometime go
unnoticed by the patient and as a result build up and can become
chronic.
As the practitioner finds
these points the client will be only to aware of the build up in the
soft tissue, as they can become very painful and can impede movement of
the body.
Trigger points are manifested
as small knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and
active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.
TRIGGER POINT TECHNIQUES
The treatment consists of
deep massage techniques. A firm digital pressure is applied by the
practitioner, who is able to locate the specific points causing pain and
restricted movement and these may often be located in places different
to where the client actually feels the pain.
Trigger point therapy is
sometimes incorporated with remedial massage.
